Cities: Skylines 2 head-turning city-builder mechanics

Cities: Skylines 2, the sequel to the beloved city-building game released in 2015, is set to launch later this year for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X. Developer Colossal Order has promised that the game will offer players “the most realistic city builder” with “a deep simulation and a living economy.” While specific details remain under wraps, the recently released list of 40 achievements for the game suggests that Cities: Skylines 2 will introduce some exciting new gameplay mechanics. The achievements are worth a total of 1,000 points and provide a sneak peek into what players can expect from the highly anticipated sequel.

One of the most thrilling achievements in the list is “Everything the Light Touches,” which requires players to unlock 150 map tiles within a single city. This is a significant improvement from the original game, where players were limited to building on only 25 tiles, or a maximum of 81 with the use of mods. If this achievement is accurate, it suggests that Cities: Skylines 2 will offer players a considerably larger space to create and develop their cities.

Another achievement that caught our eye is “Things Are Not Looking Up,” which players can unlock by experiencing a rat infestation in their city. This could occur due to poor waste disposal services or sewage problems, and it’s safe to say that most players won’t be eager to earn this particular achievement. However, we’re excited about the possibility of more in-game events like this.

The “Four Seasons” achievement implies that players can expect to see different weather conditions throughout the year. Furthermore, other achievements hint at the possibility of weather-related disasters such as hailstorms, tornados, and forest fires. Another noteworthy achievement is “You Little Stalker,” which requires players to follow a citizen’s life from childhood to old age. Finally, “Go Anywhere” can be unlocked by having 20 active transport lines, including cargo lines.

Big if true. All I want is better engine/optimization and changing seasons so I can actually use heated plumbing on normal maps when winter comes. Also, better balance with future industries-like DLC would be awesome.
