Cities Skylines 2: Milestones

In the original Cities: Skylines, Milestones were attained by hitting specific population numbers, primarily directing players towards one path: expanding residential zones. However, in Cities: Skylines II, we’ve adopted a fresh perspective. Milestones now unlock upon garnering a set amount of Expansion Points (XP), earned both passively and through active city development.

You’ll earn Passive Expansion Points periodically during the in-game day, derived from surges in both Population and Happiness. This ensures a city that’s humming along nicely sees consistent progression towards the next Milestone. In contrast, Active Expansion Points are instantly rewarded for certain actions, such as upgrading service buildings, crafting a landmark, or broadening the city’s infrastructure.

MILESTONE INCENTIVES

From the humble beginnings of “Tiny Village” to the bustling heights of “Megapolis,” there are 20 distinct Milestones awaiting. Each offers a blend of Financial bonuses, Development Points, and Expansion Permits. Moreover, they grant access to fresh City Services, Policies, and Management Strategies. As your city expands, meeting the increasing demands of your populace becomes paramount, necessitating amenities like Public Transportation and Communication. With each Milestone, Districts become available, allowing for enhanced city area customization through Policies. Dive deeper into these elements in our City Services development diary.

New zoning options become available with Milestones, aiding your village’s transformation into a dynamic city. They also introduce additional mechanisms to manage your city’s financial flow, from expanded Loan capacities to intricate Taxation and Service Fees structures. If you’re keen on revisiting, these concepts were elaborated in our prior development diary titled Economy & Production.

With each successive Milestone, the quantity of Financial rewards, Development Points, and Expansion Permits escalates, equipping you to tackle the burgeoning requirements of your city. While Expansion Permits were dissected in our Maps & Themes segment, let’s pivot our attention to Development Points and delve into their utility.
