Cities Skylines 2: Mod Transfer and Multiplayer
As the launch date for Cities Skylines 2 draws near, the city-building game’s developer, Colossal Order, has provided insight into the sequel by addressing some online queries. This has shed light on aspects such as mods and multiplayer in Cities Skylines 2, with further details anticipated.
In a recent Twitter Q&A, Cities Skylines 2 developer Colossal Order revealed several key details, such as the sequel continuing to utilize Unity and having been in development for a few years now.
For those curious about the transfer of Cities Skylines workshop mod content to the sequel, Colossal Order’s response indicates a potential setback for porting.
“Since Cities Skylines 2 is a completely new game, current workshop content will most likely require remaking or adapting,” says Colossal Order. “We will provide more information on modding Cities Skylines 2 in the future.”
In relation to Cities Skylines mods, you may be curious if Cities Skylines 2 will feature multiplayer capabilities similar to a well-known mod in the original game. However, Colossal Order suggests that incorporating official multiplayer is not among their top priorities.
“Cities Skylines 2 represents our boldest project thus far, enhancing every aspect of the franchise,” states Colossal Order. “Integrating multiplayer support demands a significant investment of time and resources, which could detract from developing the core player experience we aim to deliver.”
It seems unlikely that Cities Skylines 2 will include multiplayer at launch, and mod support may have to be built from the ground up. Colossal Order has understandably kept details vague, promising more information about the sequel throughout the year, so we must be patient for comprehensive answers.
In the Twitter comment thread, Colossal Order has been addressing additional fan queries, mentioning a “proper send-off” for the original Cities Skylines during this year. The final set of Cities Skylines DLCs was also unveiled earlier, allowing you to acquaint yourself with the developer’s plans.
