Cities Skylines 2: Themes
Wrapping up this edition of our development diary, let’s delve into the world of Themes. When initiating your city-building journey, you’re given the choice between two distinct themes: European and North American. This choice influences several aesthetic elements, including street markings, traffic light designs, specific city service vehicle models, and other roadside embellishments. While every map comes with its intrinsic theme, you’re at liberty to select your preferred style. However, bear in mind that once your city is in motion, theme alterations are off the table.
Furthermore, the architectural aesthetics of residential and commercial zones hinge on the theme selected during their inception. By default, the zoning will align with the map’s inherent theme, but the game provides flexibility, allowing you to cherry-pick from available themes during the zoning process. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even blend the best of both worlds, crafting a city that showcases elements of both European and North American themes. Additionally, when it comes to public transport stops, visuals vary based on the theme, but like zoned buildings, they too can be tailored within the game to your liking.
And that sums up today’s insights! We’re eager to hear from you. How do you feel about constructing more expansive cities? Is there a specific map you’ve set your eyes on for your next city project? And which theme do you envision for your inaugural city in Cities: Skylines II? Drop your thoughts in the comments. Stay tuned for our upcoming diary entry, where we’ll journey into the Climate & Seasons of Cities: Skylines II.
